Materials

  • 1 sheet white paper or cardstock for the card base
  • Assorted colored paper for heart decorations
  • 1 piece thread or string for hanging heart garland
  • 1 pencil to sketch shapes
  • Various markers or felt-tip pens for decorating and writing
  • Craft glue or adhesive for assembling pieces
  • Scissors for cutting shapes

Instructions

  • Create the Card Base
Fold a white sheet of paper in thirds, like a brochure. This will be the base for the fold-out card with three sections.
  • Make Colorful Heart Garlands
Draw and cut small hearts from colored paper. Glue them onto a piece of string to make a garland.
  • Decorate the Front Cover
Glue colorful hearts on the front panel of the folded card to make it bright and welcoming.
  • Add “MOM” in Bright Letters
Open the first section of the card and write “MOM,” replacing the "O" with a heart. Color it in with markers.
  • Finish with Hanging Hearts and a Message
Open the last fold. Glue the garland across the top and add a personalized message like “Happy Mother’s Day” below.

Notes

  • Message Ideas:
For toddlers: “I love you because _____.” or “Happy Mother’s Day, Mommy!”
For early writers: “You are the best mom in the world!”
For older kids: “I’m so lucky you’re my mom” or a short acrostic using M-O-M.
  • Tips for Parents/Teachers:
Don’t worry if you don’t have all the materials—substitute with what you have. Encourage creativity over perfection!
  • Keepsake Tip:
Store the card in a memory box, or hang it up as seasonal decoration.
